Samuel Lovi's inspiration for the "Picasso" Table Lamp are the african masks that once heavily influenced Picasso's work during his African-influenced period between 1907-1909. With this piece he redeems ownership of the African designs and patterns in the work of Picasso. This table lamp therefore is much more than a vibrant addition to your space, it also carries history, heritage and meaning. With its rich brown and turquoise hues, it adds a unique, meaningful touch to your décor while honoring timeless artistic traditions. Illuminate your home with a piece that tells a story of celebration and creativity, crafted by a UNESCO Craft Prize Winner.

Samuel Lovi is one of Ghana’s most celebrated artisans, recognized both locally and internationally for his mastery in pottery. In 1998, he was honoured with the UNESCO Craft Prize for his exceptional contribution to decorative pottery. His work has been showcased at the New York International Gift Show and various international craft fairs — from Burkina Faso, where he received an award for Best Pottery Exhibition, to the Ivory Coast and Paris. Born in Ghana’s Volta Region, Samuel’s journey to becoming an artisan was anything but linear. After spending several years studying in Glasgow and across the UK, he returned home to establish his own studio — a space where over 70 women from the Volta Region are now trained and empowered through the art of traditional pottery. Deeply rooted in heritage yet inspired by innovation, Samuel bridges the past and future of his craft. His work blends contemporary design with traditional techniques, whether he is molding clay, firing it in the kiln, hand-painting with kaolin and oils, or experimenting with new materials. Every piece he creates carries his distinctive touch — a harmonious balance of tradition, creativity, and vision. |
